BootcampKe Fitness is a venture in Nakuru, Kenya, started by Wahome Maina in 2017. It involves outdoor enthusiasts with a focus on education and fitness from age 5 onwards.
Beginnings and Growth
Maina is an IT specialist who has always harbored a passion for fitness. As a result, he would later acquire an ACE Certification in order to qualify as a health and fitness professional. Currently, Maina is the Assistant Health Club Manager at the Merica Hotel in Nakuru town. In addition to his fitness pursuits, he is also a certified wilderness first responder having pursued this discipline from the Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO).
Indeed, Maina was well prepared to set up a venture that is focused on fitness and the outdoors. BootcampKe Fitness is therefore involved in team building with major Kenyan companies. The venture also works with international schools via educational trips and presidential awards involving outdoor life and survival skills training, Every year, BootcampKe Fitness conducts about 2-3 trips. However, this has since been impacted with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Maina hopes it will change in 2021 and go back to the normal number.
Personal Achievements
Maina has hiked Mt. Kenya severally getting to the Lenana Peak, a feat he considers rather normal when you speak to him yet very impressive nonetheless. In April 2020, he was one of the speakers at the Engage Kenya, Nakuru Version, a platform that provides ordinary and extra-ordinary individuals a chance to share their thoughts, ideas and experiences, through music and speech.
Here, Maina was able to recount his upbringing in a moving speech. Previous participants have been award winning Kenyan boy band, Sauti Sol among others.
