Introducing Chipper Cash App

Chipper Cash App was co-founded by Ugandan, Ham Serunjogi Kakembo and Ghanaian, Maijid Moujaled. The two emigrated to the US for studies before eventually landing lucrative jobs there. Serunjogi, a top student back home in Uganda, enrolled at the Grinell College Iowa after completing his high schooling.  While there, he met Moujaled. Soon after graduating, Serunjogi got employed by Facebook. Interestingly, his big brother works for Mastercard. Moujaled on the other hand, got employed by Flickr and then later, Yahoo and Imgur. The two ultimately quit their jobs to start Chipper Cash.

Currently, the App is considered to be the largest cross-border money transfer platform in Africa. As of 2020, it is already available in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana and Rwanda. However, the company itself is based in San Francisco. Chipper Cash App is likely to be a major competitor to Kenyan birthed Safaricom M-PESA, yet another successfully run mobile money transfer platform serving Kenya, Tanzania, India, Lesotho, DRC, Ghana, Mozambique and Egypt.

Growth and Achievements

The Co-Founders acknowledge the fact that not many African Fintechs have succeeded in expanding throughout the entire African continent in the past. Chipper Cash therefore, aims to be that particular Fintech that will take root in several if not all, countries on the continent. Started in 2018, the company has had quite a number of investors investing large sums of money into the venture. Notable ones include, One Was Ventures, Brue2 Ventures, Deciens Capital and 500 Startups. American Football Legend best known for playing 16 seasons in the NFL as a quarter back, Joe Montana is also one of the funders.

As of 2019, Chipper Cash App had already processed 3 million+ transactions and boasted 600,000+ active users. What sets them apart as a company is the No Fee P2P Service provision and Chipper Check Out, a fee-based C2B product that helps to generate revenue.
