South African global hit, Jerusalema, by Limpopo native, DJ, musician and record producer, Master KG featuring South African vocalist, Nomcebo Zikode, in late August 2020, hit 100 million views on YouTube. As a result, Master KG became the first South African to achieve such a feat.

Described as an upbeat, gospel-influenced, house song, Jerusalema was initially released in South Africa on November 29th 2019. It enjoyed a positive response online and on 21st December 2019, the music video followed. In January 2020, Jerusalema was included as a single in Master KG’s second album of the same title.

Eventually, on 10th July 2020, it was released on streaming services setting off what would become a global trend thanks to the #Jerusalemadancechallenge. Indeed, the said challenge has seen many across the world participate in it during this pandemic season. Master KG attributes the onset of the dance challenge to a group of friends in Angola. The group were the first to record a video of the dance choreography for the song.

Soon enough, Nigerian singer, Burna Boy was featured in the remix that pushed the song into the US Billboard Charts. In addition, Jerusalema went on to top the UK Afrobeat Singles Chart on August 15th 2020 and held the no. 1 position for two weeks.
